Our chalet is like a home from home environment for our guests to relax in. Nothing like hotels, which are often quite stuffy! Once guests have stayed with us, we usually see them coming back year in. . . . So come and enjoy the mountains with us!

Summer and Autumn in the Alps

With warm temperatures, green meadows, lakes and fresh mountain air, a holiday in the French Alps can open up new sports and outdoor pleasures to those who may previously have considered mountains to be the sole province of the Winter sport and ski enthusiast.

The historic and picturesque town of Morzine is just 2km away and boasts 380km of marked trails for mountain biking and world championships are held here each year. There is also a 100km cycle trail. 24 lifts are open all Summer to get bikers, hikers and sightseers up into the mountains.

Followers of the 2003 Tour de France will recognise Morzine as the finish line of the gruelling Stage 7 mountain climb.

The Tour de France comes to Morzine every three years and the chalet is about 2km from the finish line. The world mountain bike championships will be take place nearby in Les Gets, in September 2004.

Other activities for the brave include climbing, mountain-boarding (the French championships were held in Morzine this year), and paragliding. Some even go bungee jumping from the Nyon gondola and allegedly the extreme sport of helibungee jumping can be found, possibly over the border in nearby Switzerland (my only advice here, other than "don't!", would be to check your travel insurance, check that its legal and skip breakfast!)


Alternatives to simply sitting on that balcony all day, tempting though it may be, include. Bike hire, bungy jumping, grass surfing, paragliding, golf, fishing, rambling, horse riding, hill walking, climbing, kayaking, white-water rafting, ice skating, tennis, quad biking, summer luge (sledging), swimming in the water park with three pools, ...

There is also a fitness centre in Morzine that is open all year round and has a sauna and jacuzzi.

The Chalet

Chalet Koala is privately owned and situated in a small community of French owned chalets that are occupied throughout the year. The picturesque village of Montriond has a popular restaurant/bar and a few shops.

Built in the traditional French style, the chalet is a blend of pine panelling, wood beams and natural stone. The flexible accommodation and open plan living areas can comfortably cater for small groups, large families or chalet parties at any time of the year.

The chalet has been running for a number of seasons. The staff naturally enjoy the Summer and Winter sports on offer, but they have been carefully selected by the owner to ensure that they place the welfare and enjoyment of our guests above all else.

The spacious open-plan living and dining area is on the first floor. It opens out onto the large sunny balcony that provides panoramic views of the Ardent valley.


Equipped with tables and chairs, the balcony is a wonderful place to enjoy a drink at the end of an energetic day as the sun sets or new snow falls. In Summer, guests normally choose to take breakfast and plan their day on the balcony as the sun rises.

Relaxation facilities, including a Games Room, PS2 Room and Sauna

The living room is equipped with a satellite TV, video and a Hi-Fi, along with tea and coffee making facilities.

The basement Games Room allows the sports theme to be continued indoors with table tennis, darts and table football. An adjoining 'PS2 Room' is equipped with a TV, video, Hi-Fi and a Playstation 2 for the boys (I meant the children!).

A Sauna in the basement will ease aching limbs.

The honesty bar in the lounge helps round off the evening.

In the Summer, guests can enjoy the splash pool and the children have their own paddling pool. Outdoor games include boules, croquet, badminton, volley ball and a basket ball hoop.

Meals

Bed and breakfast with a choice of evening meal is served during the Summer (non-skiing) season.

A packed lunch is optional and dietary requests are catered for, but please advise before arrival.

Children friendly

The garden is safe for children and there are games, books and toys to suit all ages. A cot, high chair and buggy are also available, which will help reduce your luggage!

The Accommodation

The chalet can accommodate 28 people in 9 bedrooms rooms, which are all spacious, light and airy.

Ground floor

5 bedrooms, all with sinks. 1 with a double bed and bunks (sleeps 4), 2 double rooms with a single (each sleeps 3), and 2 twin rooms. Also on the ground floor are 3 toilets, 2 shower rooms and 1 bathroom.

First floor

2 bedrooms and ideal for families with children. 1 double room and 1 twin room with bunks (sleeps 4). Both rooms have sinks and there is 1 toilet and a bathroom.

Top floor

2 bedrooms. 1 double room with a 2 extra single beds (sleeps 4) an a double room with a 1 extra single bed (sleeps 3). There is a bathroom and a toilet. The 3 bathrooms all have a shower over bath and there are an additional 5 toilets and 2 shower rooms.

The Area

Montriond is the last of nine villages in the Vallee D'Aulps that stretches for 35km along the river Dranse. The landscape is punctuated by the numerous streams that gush down the steep mountain sides. Within a 10 minute drive is the hamlet of Lindarets, with its wooden chalets, restaurants and gift shops (beware of the goats!). The nearby Lake (Lac Montriond) hosts a range of activities in the Summer. A filtered pool provides a safe water playground for children and has a lifeguard during the summer months.

Places to visit include historic Annecy, with its old town, shops and, its lake with boat trips. Geneva, with boat trips across Lake Geneva to Swiss Lausanne. Medieval Yvoire, and Chamonix where worlds highest lift that takes you to 3,842 meters provides stunning alpine views across to Mont Blanc.

How to get to Chalet Koala

By Air

There are regular flights to Geneva (a 75 minute drive) and Lyon airports from most major European cities. Carriers include Easyjet, Buzz and Lufthansa.

If you are flying into Geneva, let us know your flight details and we will arrange a transfer service to meet you at the airport.
Most of our guests flying into Lyon choose to hire a car.

By Road

Chalet Koala is a comfortable 1 day drive from the Northern French sea ports (550 miles) to Morzine, which is located approximately 45km East of Geneva on the A44.

Channel crossings operate between Dover and Calais. Shipping lines that have regular services include Seafrance and P&O ferries. An alternative to a sea crossing is Eurotunnel
