My hard-earned experience

I have honed my ability to gain buy-in, create a sense of urgency and get results, through a 20 year career in high-technology sales that took me to 25 countries on 4 continents in the pursuit of new business. This taught me what motivates people. At one time I was weekly commuting to the USA as the Strategic Marketing consultant to the CEO and delivered the strategic plan that secured venture capital. This taught me how to make people sit up and listen.

I learnt the skills and have the vision to see the way forward.

Experienced at Director level in Sales, Marketing and Leadership roles. I recently led a successful Managed Services start-up business unit that was identified by City analysts as the jewel in the sale of the business to a UK plc.

Every time you speak, you must focus on the audience and how to hook them into your goals. Think of the individuals. Work out how to appeal to them and target the emotions that will motivate them into ACTION. You must gain buy-in and create a sense of urgency. Passion, no less! You may end up with a highly polished presentation, but don't get smug, or else...

Always have a plan so that you can stay on course

Never forget... you will have to deliver the highlights many times over in the corridors, at the bar and by the coffee machine. Therefore, you must always have the key messages to hand, be able to tailor the emotional pitch and have mental images that you can quickly sketch on a whiteboard or napkin.

In other words, you should always be prepared to gain buy-in when the need or opportunities arise. You must be passionate about your messages and your sense of urgency must be infectious... if not, why should anyone go along with you?
