Every town on the Spanish Costa del Sol has its own micro-climate. The owner of this villa clearly knew the mantra 'location, location, location', meaning that the position of a property in its surrounds is the most important factor, because it's the one thing no amount of money can change! She also knew exactly what kind of micro-climate she was looking for.
"A mini-model of paradise, with forest, lakes and rivers. A lush green valley, like an oasis in the hills scorched by the summer sun. Clean air and tranquility but within minutes of the beach, attractions and activities that make this costa a primary holiday destination."
Who wouldn't want this! So, it's not really surprising to know that the search took 2 years or, that much of it had to be conducted on foot and by bicycle!
The owner also had an interest in the traditional building crafts that had been developed over the centuries to combat the heat of a Spanish summer in the days before air-conditioning. The results of her architectural investigations can be found in this modern villa that achieves coolness and natural ventilation through good design. The exterior appearance is traditional, and the interior is contemporary.
The villa
The location of this villa allows its 5 sunbeds, barbecue, pool and garden to be enjoyed to the full. The villa is also equipped with ADSL for internet access, so you can perhaps extend your holiday a little longer if you want to check emails or gain remote access to your company network with your laptop! The gardens and the pool are maintained daily by the caretaker who lives in the adjoining guest house. His willingness to help and local knowledge is greatly appreciated by tenants.
The multi-level and spacious living area (70 m2) is open plan and the stair case, which opens onto a galleried landing, contributes to the feeling of space and ventilation.
The living room is adorned with large houseplants and features a fireplace and large patio doors that open onto the terrace. The TV is equipped with satellite channels that include programmes in the following languages; Arabian, English, French, German, Polish and Spanish. An ADSL connection for internet is provided. The dinning area is set in a galleried area.
An archway leads to the fitted kitchen that has ample work-top space and a serving area. Equipment includes a gas oven and ceramic hob.
The Accommodation - Sleeps 8
The Bedrooms are normally arranged as follows, although the configuration can be changed to suit.
- Bedroom 1: 1 double and 1 single bed
- Bedroom 2: 1 double bed
- Bedroom 3: 1 single bed
- Bedroom 4: 2 single beds
And for those who can't sleep... there is a very well stocked library!
Plenty of space for all the family, with the luxury of 4 bathrooms.
The Mijas Area
For those who like tranquility, the woods are a haven for plants and wildlife. The webmaster is particularly partial to the edible Ceps mushroom which can be found in these woods!
The mountain village of Mijas
The villa is 5 minutes drive from the town of Mijas, or 'white' village due to its whitewashed houses, that was founded in the 16th century and is arguably the prettiest mountain village in Andalucia.
Mijas is famous for its artisans who, for example, make beautiful ceramics, traditional architecture and its bull ring, one of the oldest in Spain and most curious because it is not round but a parallelogram.
It is a delightful place at about 600m above sea level, and all the more so in the early morning and into the evening, when the visitors have left and the town is returned to the locals.
The beaches
Yaramar beach is just 5km away and Castillo beach is 7Km. Close by are numerous beach resorts, large and small.
You may choose to explore others by bicycle, using the cycle path.
Historic sites
In historic times, this mountainous coastal region was fortified by castles.
Their well preserved remains are now surrounded by gardens
and whereas once they repelled invaders, they now help to attract tourists to the many beaches and sandy coves that have been developed for their enjoyment.
Places to visit
For those who wish to explore the area by coach or car, the historic mountain town of Ronda is well worth the drive. The twisting and climbing road leads to a famous bridge that spans a gorge and features a single cell (try escaping from that!) and to the town's pretty streets and squares. Also well worth a visit are cosmopolitan Marbella and Puerto Banus, with its street cafes and restaurants set around its famous marina. Slightly further away are Sevilla and Cordoba.Golf... Suffice to say that if you happen to take a walk with your eyes shut, the odds are that you will fall into a bunker!
Golf at Alhaurin 4km, and Mijas Cala Golf is 10km.
Tennis is 3km and the Hippodrome is 15km.
For families with children and those who like larger attractions such as water parks, the nearby resort of Fuengirola has much to offer, including the claim to have over 4,000 bars!
The location of the Villa at Las Lomas de Mijas is indicated on this map. It is nicely separated from the coastal conurbation of Fuengirola that is indicated in blue.
So... the choice of busy resorts, golf, beaches, medieval towns or secluded and tranquil woods.
This villa pretty well has it all!

Prices range from £678 - £1500 GBP per week (860 - 2175 euros per week), depending on the season.
Linen, towels, soap, paper, heating, ADSL-internet, pool and garden mantainance included.
Payment options:
Transfer booking deposit, 8 weeks before arrival - the balance, breakage deposit 400 euros in cash (could be in pounds to avoid double exchange) directly to the housekeeper, when youŽll get a key. Refundable, if no damage.- The price includes the maintenance of the garden and pool.
- £75/week per additional person.
- A cleaning charge is made at the end of your stay.
- The villa is available on a long term let at the rate of 2500 euro per month, plus 3 months deposit or 1 month and a bank guarantee.
